Cheng-Weyl Vector Field and its Cosmological Application

چکیده
Weyl’s antiquated idea of scale invariance was resurrected by Cheng in 1988, almost 60 years later. The requirement of local scale invariance leads to the existence of a completely new vector field, which we call as “Cheng-Weyl vector field”. The Cheng-Weyl vector field only couples to the scalar field and the gravitational field naturally. It does not interact with other known matters in the particle physics standard model. In the present work, the (generalized) Cheng-Weyl vector field coupling with a scalar field and its cosmological application are investigated. We regard the dark energy as a mixture of the scalar field and a so-called “cosmic triad” of three mutually orthogonal Cheng-Weyl vector fields. The cosmological evolution of this “mixed” dark energy is studied. We find that the effective equation-of-state parameter of dark energy can cross the phantom divide wde = −1 in some cases; the first and second cosmological coincidence problems can be alleviated at the same time in this model. Modified Gravity with Vector Distortion and Cosmological Applications
We briefly review the basics of Weyl geometry and its natural extension by a general linear ”distortion” of the metric connection by a vector field. A special class of the connections has torsion but retains the Weyl’s semi-metricity condition. We present ghost-free gravitational theories in this geometrical setup and highlight their possible cosmological applications, such as new self-tuning s...
متن کاملUniversal Field Equations for Metric–affine Theories of Gravity
We show that almost all metric–affine theories of gravity yield Einstein equations with a non–null cosmological constant Λ. Under certain circumstances and for any dimension, it is also possible to incorporate a Weyl vector field Wμ and therefore the presence of an anisotropy. The viability of these field equations is discussed in view of recent astrophysical observations.
متن کاملOn Einstein - Weyl unified model of dark energy and dark matter
Here I give a more detailed account of the part of the conference report 1 that was devoted to reinterpreting the Einstein 'unified models of gravity and electromagnetism' (1923) as the unified theory of dark energy (cosmological constant) and dark matter (neutral massive vector particle having only gravitational interactions). After summarizing Einstein's work and related earlier work of Weyl ...
متن کاملSpacetimes admitting quasi-conformal curvature tensor
The object of the present paper is to study spacetimes admitting quasi-conformal curvature tensor. At first we prove that a quasi-conformally flat spacetime is Einstein and hence it is of constant curvature and the energy momentum tensor of such a spacetime satisfying Einstein's field equation with cosmological constant is covariant constant. Next, we prove that if the perfect flui...

In this paper we consider the action of higher derivative gravity up to the second order terms in the scalars made from the Ricci scalar, Ricci and Riemann tensors. We use the Bach- Lanczos identity of the Weyl tensor in four dimensions and show that the solutions of 4-dimensional Einstein equations with cosmological constant term in vacuum, which are known as Einstein metrics, satisfy the fie...
